Steps to solving a math word problem (résoudre)
Preparation for the Final Evaluation: 
Chapters 1-8 will be evaluated.
Important Vocabulary to know:
Equation I bought 3 candies. My friend wanted some too so I went back to the store and bought 3 for her. Write the equation and find the sum. 
Sum (+) Billy bought 2 apples and then 4 more. Find the sum.
Difference (-) Write the terms for the substractions and find the difference. 
Fewer This word is telling the student to subtract. 
For example: There were 10 squares. There were 5 fewer triangles than squares. How many triangles were there?
10-5=5
Left over / left (-) The grade twos are going on a walk.  Miss Alex wants them to walk two by two. If there are 15 students going, how many students will be left over? (without a walking partner)
Equivalent Expressions meaning equations that have the same answer.
5+6 and 4+ ____
Step 1 figure out the sum.
Step 2 ask yourself 4 plus WHAT equals ___ (the sum).
9+9 and 10+ ____
 
Double: The student should be able to find the double of a given number.
For example: John is making cookies. He makes 12 cookies. His brother makes double the number of cookies. How many cookies does his brother make? The card game salute is an excellent way to practice doubles (click the word salute to find a video demonstrating the game).
